1-(18F)Fluoranyl-3-iodopropane is a radiolabeled fatty acid analog that can be used for biological studies to measure the binding of the molecule to a receptor. It has been shown to bind with high affinity and selectivity to 5-HT2C receptors, which are expressed in striatal membranes. The uptake of this radiolabeled fatty acid analog was observed in rat striatal tissue in vivo using a spectrometer. 1-(18F)Fluoranyl-3-iodopropane has also been used as an analog of dopamine, and it has been shown to have similar effects on amines and fatty acids.
