2-Fluoro-7-Nitrofluorene is a volatile organic compound that is used as a natural dye. It has been shown to have mutagenic activity in the Ames test, with strain specificity and an acetonitrile solvent. 2-Fluoro-7-Nitrofluorene also reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form 3-nitrobenzanthrone, which is fluorescent under UV light. The fluorescence of 2-fluoro-7-nitrofluorene is detectable when it reacts with 3-nitrobenzanthrone in the presence of an organic solvent such as nhexane.
