6-Fluoro-5-methylchrysene is a skin tumor agent and a carcinogen. It has been shown to be carcinogenic in animals, with structural modifications that include fluorine atom. This compound belongs to the group of hydrocarbons that have been modified by the addition of a fluorine atom. 6-Fluoro-5-methylchrysene is an example of an isomer that has been shown to induce tumorigenesis in papillomas in mice and rats. The mechanism for this effect may be due to the ability of this compound to react with DNA and form covalent adducts. Tetradecanoylphorbol acetate (TPA) was found to enhance the tumorigenic effects of 6-fluoro-5-methylchrysene in mice, suggesting that it may also have immunosuppressive effects.
