Product Information
- 2-Pyrimidinol, 5-fluoro- (9CI)
5-Fluoro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone is a carboxylate that inhibits the tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. It binds to the cytidine deaminase enzyme, which is involved in the conversion of 5-fluorocytosine to 5-fluorouracil, and prevents this conversion. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the production of 5-fluorouracil, which may be responsible for its tumor inhibiting activity. The effect of this drug on human liver cells has been shown using a hydrated substrate assay. The effects of this drug on tumor cell proliferation have been studied by observing metaphase preparations from Chinese hamster ovary cells treated with 5-fluoro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone. This compound also reversibly binds to the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA) and inhibits its activity when it is bound; it does not bind ADA when it is free in
