It is similar to the natural estrogens, but has a longer duration of action. 2-Fluoro-17-ethynylestradiol binds to the estrogen receptor and stimulates the production of certain proteins, leading to changes in cell growth. This drug can also be metabolized into oxidation products, which may contribute to its carcinogenic activity. 2-Fluoro-17-ethynylestradiol has been shown to have antiasthenic properties and can inhibit ovulation at high doses.
