6-Fluoro-2,4-dihydroxyquinoline is a heterocyclic compound that has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It belongs to the class of chemical compounds called hydrazones and is used in the synthesis of other heterocycles. 6-Fluoro-2,4-dihydroxyquinoline can be prepared from dichloro, diethyl malonate, hydrazide, malonate or acetoacetate with ethyl bromoacetate or cyclic ethyl acetoacetate. 6-Fluoro-2,4-dihydroxyquinoline is used in the synthesis of certain drugs like triethyl orthoformate and heterocycles. The drug has been shown to have antibacterial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and antifungal activity against Candida spp.
