5-(4-Fluorobenzylidene)rhodanine is an isomeric compound that belongs to the class of carbonyl compounds. It has a dipolar nature and hydrogen bonds with other molecules. 5-(4-Fluorobenzylidene)rhodanine is synthesized by reacting 4-fluorobenzaldehyde with a hydrazine derivative in the presence of an acid catalyst, such as hydrochloric acid. This process produces two diastereomers, which can be separated using column chromatography. 5-(4-Fluorobenzylidene)rhodanine has antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including multidrug-resistant strains. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that are due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
