2-Fluoro-5-nitrophenyl Isocyanate is a reactive intermediate that is used in the manufacture of other chemicals. It reacts with nucleophiles such as amines, alcohols, and thiols to form new carbon-nitrogen bonds. 2-Fluoro-5-Nitrophenyl Isocyanate can be hydrolyzed by acid to form 2-fluoronitrobenzene. This chemical has been shown to react with hydroxide ion to form an acetonide, which undergoes intramolecular cyclization. This reaction can also be catalyzed by a metal salt such as zinc chloride or copper sulfate. 2-Fluoro-5-Nitrophenyl Isocyanate also undergoes methylation, which is followed by a cyclization reaction.
