3-Fluorobenzamidine hydrochloride is a pyridine that inhibits viral replication. It binds to the capsid protein of the virus, inhibiting the assembly and release of new virions. 3-Fluorobenzamidine hydrochloride has shown affinity for the same site as a number of other antiviral drugs. In addition, this drug has been shown to inhibit human DNA polymerase alpha and beta, which are required for DNA replication in mammalian cells. 3-Fluorobenzamidine hydrochloride is not active against all viruses though and may not be suitable for use in treating hepatitis B or C.
