2-(4-Fluorobenzoyl)-3-Phenyloxirane (2FBPO) is a reactive intermediate used as a coupling agent in organic synthesis. It is prepared by the oxidative coupling of 4-fluorobenzoic acid with phenylacetic acid. 2FBPO can be used for the decarboxylative and oxidative decarboxylation of cinnamic acids, such as p-coumaric, ferulic, and caffeic acids. The product obtained after decarboxylation is 2-(4-fluorophenyl)acetic acid. 2FBPO also has been shown to react with ketones to give substituted benzaldehydes or substituted benzofurans.
