This compound has been used as a probe for conformational changes in proteins and peptides and has also been used to study the radiation sensitivity of cancer cells. (7-Fluoro-1H-Indol-3-Yl)Acetic Acid has also been used as a component of fluorescent probes for the detection of x rays, gamma rays, and electron beams. The fluorescence quantum yield for this compound is 0.2.
