2-Fluoro-3-(methylsulfanyl)pyridine is a heterocyclic compound that can be used as a substrate for lithium reagents. Lithiated 2-fluoro-3-(methylsulfanyl)pyridine reacts with nucleophiles, such as amines or alcohols, in the presence of lithium to form 2-fluoro-3-(methylthio)pyridine. This reaction is efficient and can be carried out in one pot. It is also possible to use this lithiated heterocycle for sequence analysis, including restriction endonuclease mapping and protein sequencing. Lithiated 2-fluoro-3-(methylsulfanyl)pyridine has also been used in biomolecular chemistry and electrophilic chemistry.
