- Benzaldehyde, 3-[(3-Fluorophenyl)Methoxy]-
3-[(3-Fluorobenzyl)Oxy]Benzaldehyde (FBZ) is a selective monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) inhibitor. It binds to the active site of MAO-A and prevents it from breaking down the neurotransmitter dopamine, which leads to increased levels of dopamine in the brain. FBZ has been shown to have neurotoxic effects and can cause increased levels of dopamine in the brain. FBZ has been shown to be an effective inhibitor against both MAO-A and MAO-B enzymes, but has higher selectivity for MAO-A. This drug also has been shown to be a good lead compound for developing new MAO inhibitors by substituting different groups on the benzene ring.
