Product Information
5-Fluoro-1-methyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is an organic compound that is a member of the indole family. It has been shown to have affinity for colorectal cancer cells and inhibits their growth by binding to DNA. 5-Fluoro-1-methyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione also has cytotoxic effects on other cancer cell lines, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer cells. This compound also has antibacterial effects against gram positive bacteria and can be used to treat infections caused by these bacteria. 5FMID binds to the thymine base in DNA and prevents replication of bacterial DNA. The hydrogen bond interactions between this compound and the phosphate backbone in DNA are strong enough to cause conformational changes that inhibit enzymatic activity, leading to cell death.
