N-(3-Fluoropropyl)-N-norbuprenorphine (3FP-NPN) is a synthetic opioid with a chemical structure similar to that of buprenorphine. 3FP-NPN binds to the mu and kappa opioid receptors with higher affinity than buprenorphine, but lower than morphine. 3FP-NPN has been shown to have an increased ability to cross the blood brain barrier and bind to the striatum, cerebellum, and prefrontal cortex in vitro studies. This drug has been shown to produce analgesia in animal models. 3FP-NPN is less potent than morphine and does not produce respiratory depression or dependence at doses up to 30 mg/kg.
