Description

1-(4-Fluorobenzyl)-1H-indole-2,3-dione (PFBD) is an anti-cancer agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of renal cell cancer and lung cancer. PFBD has antibacterial activity against enterobacter, epidermidis, faecalis and staphylococcus strains. It also has antimycobacterial activity against mycobacterium tuberculosis. This compound can be synthesized in a laboratory by reacting thiosemicarbazide with 1H-indole-2,3-dione. The synthesis involves modifications to the indole ring and a substitution on the 4 position of the benzene ring with fluorine.
