This compound is soluble in water and reacts with sulfuric acid to form the corresponding sulfonic acid. 3-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3-oxopropanenitrile hydrolyses in an anhydrous environment to give the corresponding amide. The use of 3-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-oxopropanenitrile as a starting material for the synthesis of blonanserin was first reported by Li et al.
