Product Information
5-Fluoro-2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzaldehyde (5FMB) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial properties. It has also been shown to be an inhibitor of β-amyloid peptide aggregation and metal chelator, which suggests it may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. 5FMB inhibits β-amyloid peptide aggregation through the formation of hydrophobic interactions with β-amyloid peptides and metal ions, which prevents the formation of amyloid fibrils. In addition, 5FMB inhibits the synthesis of β-amyloid peptides by preventing the conversion of γ-secretase to its active form. As a result, 5FMB may also be a possible therapeutic for Alzheimer's disease as it prevents the formation of amyloid plaques in patients.
