4-Fluorobiphenyl is an aromatic hydrocarbon that has a constant boiling point, which makes it useful for the preparation of organic solvents. It can also be used in the treatment of renal cell carcinomas and as a probe for magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 4-Fluorobiphenyl inhibits formylation of proteins and has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of cancer cells.
