10-Fluoro-7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene is a carcinogenic aromatic hydrocarbon. It has been shown to induce skin tumors in animals and is genotoxic, causing mutations in the v79 cells. 10-Fluoro-7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene binds to DNA with high affinity and inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting the activity of enzymes such as hepg2 cell and epidermal hyperplasia. It also causes an increase in epidermal thickness. 10-Fluoro-7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene is used as a research tool to study gene expression and cancer development in mammalian cells.
