It is a hydrogen bond acceptor, which can act as a nucleophile. 4-fluoronitrobenzene reacts with diphenyl ether to form nitro-diphenyl ether, which can be reduced to aniline. 4-Fluoronitrobenzene has been shown to inhibit growth factor and biological treatment by inhibiting the activity of enzymes such as tyrosinase, which is involved in melanin synthesis. This compound also inhibits microbial metabolism by blocking the enzyme system that converts amino acids into glucose. 4-Fluoronitrobenzene has been shown to have bacteriostatic activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli, but not against Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebs
