Synonyms:
  • 3-Pyridinecarboxylic Acid, 5-Fluoro-, Ethyl Ester

Description:

5-Fluoro-3-Pyridinecarboxylicacid Ethyl Ester is a water soluble, dilute methyl alcohol solution of an antibacterial agent. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections and has been shown to be effective against nicotiana tabacum and enoxacin resistant strains of bacteria. The compound inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase, which causes the strands of DNA to unwind, preventing transcription and replication. It is also active against natural alkaloids such as nicotine. This chemical may have a linear relationship with average daily consumption of tobacco products.
