6-Fluoro-2-(Methylsulfanyl)-1,3-Benzothiazole is a fluorescent probe that has been used for the detection and localization of apoptotic cells. It has been shown to be highly specific for labeling apoptotic cells and can be detected using fluorescent microscopy. 6-Fluoro-2-(Methylsulfanyl)-1,3-Benzothiazole binds to plasma membrane by interaction with phospholipid head groups, which are abundant in apoptotic cells. This probe is also sensitive to biochemical changes in the cell, such as calcium fluxes and mitochondrial membrane potential changes.
