It has high binding affinity for the 5HT7 receptor and shows antinociceptive activity in animal models of colorectal pain. The drug also binds with high affinity to the 5HT7 receptor, which is expressed on neurons in the enteric nervous system and has been implicated in the pathophysiology of bowel syndrome (IBS).
