4-Fluoro-alpha-(1-methylethyl)-benzeneacetic acid is a calcium antagonist drug that belongs to the class of medicines called "calcium channel blockers." It has been found to be optically active and has a hydrolyzed form. This substance also exists as atropisomers, with one form being more potent as an antagonist than the other. 4-Fluoro-alpha-(1-methylethyl)-benzeneacetic acid is a racemic mixture that can crystallize in either the (R,S) or (S,R) configuration. The (S,R) form is inactive and does not have any therapeutic use. Mibefradil, another calcium channel blocker drug, can also exist as atropisomers and it is possible for them to coexist.
