5-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3-(3-Nitrophenyl)-1,2,4-Oxadiazole is a natural product that has been shown to be active against the yeast Candida albicans and Fusarium oxysporum. It has also been shown to have activity against Candida glabrata and C. krusei. 5-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3-(3-Nitrophenyl)-1,2,4-Oxadiazole is a new class of antifungal agents with a novel mode of action as an inhibitor of fungal protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome and preventing peptide bond formation. This compound may offer an alternative treatment for candida infections in patients who cannot tolerate or are resistant to itraconazole or fluconazole.
