Description:
5-Fluoro-2-methylindan-1-one is the methylidene derivative of 5-fluoroindan. It has anti-inflammatory activity and competes with arachidonic acid for binding to the cyclooxygenase enzyme, thereby blocking its conversion to prostaglandin H2 (PGH2). This prevents the production of inflammatory mediators such as PGD2, PGE2, and thromboxane A2. 5-Fluoro-2-methylindan-1-one also inhibits the production of leukotrienes by blocking the action of lipoxygenase.
