2-Fluorophenethyl bromide is a proinflammatory agent that can be used to induce inflammation. It has been shown to inhibit lipopolysaccharide and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) induced inflammatory responses in mice. 2-Fluorophenethyl bromide binds to toll-like receptor 4 on the surface of certain cells, initiating an inflammatory response. This agent also increases the expression of the transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), which is involved in regulating the immune response. 2-Fluorophenethyl bromide may also have cardiac effects due to its ability to activate NF-κB in cardiac cells.
