4-(4-Fluorophenyl)-2-Methyl-6-[5-(1-Piperidyl)Pentoxy]Pyrimidine (FPMP) is a compound that has been shown to have neuroprotective properties and inhibit tissue plasminogen activator. FPMP has been shown to improve the symptoms of acute ischemic stroke, and it may be useful in the treatment of other nervous system disorders such as Parkinson's disease. In addition, FPMP protects against neuronal cell death by inhibiting voltage-gated Na+ channels. This drug also inhibits the activity of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II, which is involved in the regulation of energy metabolism. FPMP also enhances maximal response to depolarizing electrical stimulation.
