8-Fluoro-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-6H-pyrrolo[4,3,2-ef][2]benzazepin-6-one is a drug that has been found to inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer cells. 8FTHPBA inhibits the activity of an enzyme called ornithine decarboxylase, which is involved in the synthesis of polyamines. Polyamines are compounds that are necessary for cell division and survival. 8FTHPBA blocks the conversion of ornithine to putrescine and spermidine by inhibiting ornithine decarboxylase and leads to cell death. This compound also has anti-cancer effects on other types of cancer cells.
