3-Fluoro-11-oxatricyclo[6.2.1.0sup>2,7/sup>]un (3FO) is a drug that is used in the treatment of malaria. It inhibits the alpha-amylase enzyme and prevents the digestion of starch by this enzyme. In addition, 3FO blocks the assembly of polypeptides by rotating amino acids in a ratchet-like manner and therefore preventing them from being joined together to form proteins. This drug also has significant anti-malarial activity against chloroquine-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum.
