2-[(1-Adamantyloxy)methyl]oxirane is a quaternary ammonium compound that exhibits antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria. 2-[(1-Adamantyloxy)methyl]oxirane inhibits the growth of S. aureus and other multidrug-resistant pathogens in vitro, while it has no effect on Escherichia coli. The mechanism of action is still unclear, but it may be due to the presence of an alkoxy group or its ability to form stable quaternary salts with calcium ions. 2-[(1-Adamantyloxy)methyl]oxirane shows antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
