Description

[(5-Methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)methyl]amine is a serotonergic drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as serotonin agonists. It has been shown to inhibit uptake of serotonin and noradrenaline, and it inhibits binding of the radioligand [3H]paroxetine. [(5-Methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)methyl]amine binds to serotonergic receptors in rat brain tissue with high affinity, but does not bind to adrenergic receptors. This drug also has pharmacological effects on animals, including an increase in spontaneous motor activity in rats, inhibition of convulsions induced by pentylenetetrazol, and suppression of locomotor activity induced by apomorphine.
