Triethoxy[5,5,6,6,7,7,7-heptafluoro-4,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)heptyl]silane is a fluorinated hydrocarbon that is used in the production of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). This compound has a high thermal stability and low surface energy. The technique for its synthesis involves the reaction of methane with trichlorosilane using photoelectron spectroscopy. Triethoxy[5,5,6,6,7,7,7-heptafluoro-4,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)heptyl]silane has been studied by thermogravimetric analysis at temperatures ranging from 298 to 773 K and by x-ray diffraction. This compound is hydrophobic and has a low surface free energy.
