Glycolonitrile is a chemical compound that can be found in the form of a colorless liquid. It is used as a solvent in organic synthesis and as a precursor to other chemicals such as nitrobenzene, acrylonitrile and ethylene diamine. Glycolonitrile is used in the production of polyurethane and neoprene rubber, as well as for the manufacture of certain types of plastics. This chemical is also used in the production of nylon fibers, synthetic leathers, insulation, adhesives and coatings. The detection sensitivity for this compound was determined using an ethylene diamine assay on skin models which showed that it could be detected at levels around 50%.
