Gastrin II sulfated is a vasoactive intestinal peptide that binds to the G-protein receptor. It has been shown to have a depressant effect on the gastrointestinal tract, and can be used in diagnostic tests for the presence of gastrin in human serum or biological samples. Gastrin II sulfated contains a disulfide bond that stabilizes the molecule and prevents it from degrading. The physiological levels of this hormone are found in human serum at concentrations ranging from 10-4 to 10-2 Molarity. This peptide hormone is present in gastric glands and pancreatic cells, where it stimulates the release of gastric acid and digestive enzymes. Gastrin II sulfated is found in micrometer sized particles, which may be due to its high molecular weight.
