Z-Gly-Pro-Gly-Gly-Pro-Ala-OH is a synthetic substrate. It is used in tissue culture to measure collagenase activity, as well as in skin cells to measure the activity of v. anguillarum. The optimum pH for this substrate is 5.5 and it has been shown to be stable in high salt environments. This substrate also reacts with human liver granulosa cells and has been shown to have neutral pH properties. Z-Gly-Pro-Gly-Gly-Pro-Ala-OH is an enzyme substrate that is involved in many different enzyme activities including protein synthesis and hydrogen bonding.
