Description

N-4-[[(2-Amino-3,4-dihydro-4-oxo-6-pteridinyl)methyl]amino]benzoyl]-D-glutamic acid is a stimulator of the chloride ion channel in the central nervous system. It has been shown to increase blood pressure by stimulating the action of the sympathetic nervous system. The drug is an analog of GABA (gamma amino butyric acid), which is an endogenous neurotransmitter and a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in mammals. The drug also has antiviral properties and can be used to treat infectious diseases caused by viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 2, influenza A virus, human immunodeficiency virus type 1, or varicella zoster virus.
