(-)-Gallocatechin 3-(4''-O-methyl)gallate (GCG) is a flavonoid with cytotoxic activity. GCG was shown to inhibit the proliferation of human liver cells in vitro, leading to necrosis and apoptosis. GCG also had an effect on the synthesis of various proteins, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF), which is involved in inflammation and cancer progression. The anticancer effects of GCG may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomes. GCG has been shown to have other beneficial effects on health, such as reducing blood pressure and increasing insulin sensitivity.
