Guanyl urea sulfate is a chemical compound that can be used in tissue culture as an analytical method for test samples. The chemical formula is NH(C(O)NH)SO4. Guanyl urea sulfate has been shown to inhibit the expression of inflammatory genes in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of fatty acids. This drug has also been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and yeast; it has been found to disrupt bacterial cell membranes by forming hydrogen bonds with nitrogen atoms on the membrane surface. Guanyl urea sulfate is structurally similar to dimethyl fumarate, which is used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
