Name:
Gaboxadol hydrochloride
Synonyms:
  • 4,5,6,7-Tetrahydroisoxazolo[5,4-c]pyridin-3-ol hydrochlorideTHIP HCl
Description:

Gaboxadol hydrochloride is a drug that has been used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is a selective agonist for the α1 subunit of the GABAA receptor, which is responsible for mediating inhibitory neurotransmission. Gaboxadol hydrochloride can also have synergic effects with dopamine and GABA, and can be used as a pharmacological treatment for symptoms caused by dopamine deficiency. This drug also has an effect on locomotor activity, but does not affect rotarod performance or polymerase chain reaction time. The most common side effects are dizziness and drowsiness, which may be due to its inhibition of neuronal firing in brain regions such as the striatum and substantia nigra.
