Gallium nitrate is a compound that has been shown to have an effect on disease activity. It inhibits the growth of c. glabrata and other fungal cells by binding to intracellular targets such as iron homeostasis and enzymes, such as basic protein, which are essential for cell division. Gallium nitrate also inhibits experimental models of infectious diseases in animals, such as T-cell lymphomas, through its ability to inhibit enzyme activities. The gallium ion has been found to be the active form of this drug.
