Z-D-gln-OH is an amino acid derivative that is used as a reagent to measure the concentration of hydroxylamine. It is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme glycogen phosphorylase, which catalyzes the conversion of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate and results in a decrease in glucose levels. The inhibition of this enzyme can be used to control blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus patients. Z-D-gln-OH has also been shown to inhibit the activity of other enzymes involved in glycolysis, such as phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase.
