Guanidine sulfate is a white or yellowish crystalline substance that is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether. It is the sodium salt of guanidine. Guanidine sulfate is used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and other joint problems. The drug has been shown to have a number of physiological effects, including lowering blood pressure and inhibiting the production of cholesterol. It also has chemical stability and can be used as a nitrogen source in wastewater treatment plants. Guanidine sulfate has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on optimal reaction conditions with phosphorus pentoxide or chloride.
