(S)-(-)-2-Guanidinoglutaric Acid is a chemical compound that is a reactive, ammonium formate. It has been shown to have convulsant effects in animal models and is used as a tool for studying the role of brain phosphatases in epilepsy. (S)-(-)-2-Guanidinoglutaric Acid belongs to the class of guanylate cyclase activators, which are drugs that increase the levels of cGMP. This drug also inhibits soluble guanylate cyclase and serotonergic neurotransmission by blocking the SERT transporter, leading to an inhibitory effect on 5-HT3 receptors. (S)-(-)-2-Guanidinoglutaric Acid has also been shown to be immobilized by attaching it to activated agarose beads and has been used in the study of neuronal cells.
