Galantide is a peptide-based drug that acts as a competitive antagonist of galanin, which is a neuropeptide. It binds to the receptor for galanin and prevents it from binding to the cell surface. Galantide has been shown to act as an agonist at the 2-adrenergic receptor and as an antagonist at the neurokinin-1 receptor. Galantide also inhibits cholinesterase activity by binding to acetylcholine esterase and blocking its action. Galantide has been shown to have estrogenic effects in women due to its ability to activate estrogen receptors. The structural analysis of galantide has been performed using experimental models and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
