Product Information
Ghrelin is a peptide hormone that is mainly produced by the stomach but also in other parts of the body. It has a variety of physiological effects, including stimulating appetite, regulating energy homeostasis, and regulating growth hormone release. Ghrelin binds to the ghrelin receptor in the hypothalamus and increases the expression of tyrosine kinase (a protein involved in cell signaling) and mapk activity (a protein involved in cell survival). The downstream effects of these changes are increased glomerulosa cell proliferation and increased growth hormone release. Ghrelin also has an immunoreactive role in inflammatory cells such as macrophages and neutrophils. Ghrelin can be used as a marker for mesenteric vascular injury or neonatal sepsis.
