Ginsenosides are active components of the root of Panax ginseng. 20(R)Ginsenoside Rh2 is a hydrophilic compound that has been shown to inhibit the release of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) from cultured cells in a dose-dependent manner. This inhibition was due to a decrease in intracellular calcium, which led to reduced bFGF production by the cells. Ginsenoside Rh2 also has protective effects on ischemia-reperfusion injury and can be used as an injection solution for skin injuries.
