4-Hydroxy-3-nitrobiphenyl is an organic compound that belongs to the group of biphenyls. It is a yellow solid with a melting point of about 107°C. 4-Hydroxy-3-nitrobiphenyl has been shown to react with chloride ions and irradiation, forming nitrobenzene. This reaction system has been used to produce hydrogen gas in aqueous media. 4-Hydroxy-3-nitrobiphenyl also reacts with water vapor to form hydroxylamine, which can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of diaminonitrobenzenes and other compounds. The diameter of this particle ranges from 5 nm (diameter) to 10 µm (length).
