2-Hydroxy-6-methylpyridine is an organic acid that contains nitrogen and oxygen atoms. It has a molecular weight of 88.10 g/mol and a melting point of -14.5 °C. The crystal x-ray diffraction pattern for 2-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine is shown in Fig. 1.
The copper complex of 2-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine, Cu(2HMP)(OH)₂, was synthesized by combining the reactants 2HMP (1 eq), CuCl₂ (2 eq), and H₂O (3 eq). The low energy transfer reactions between the metal ion and the ligand are likely to be responsible for the observed crystal x-ray diffraction pattern of this compound.
